1996 XJ12, where do I locate the engine number that is stamped on the block. I've been told in the V at the back of the block, on top. I cannot locate by removing the plastic cover over the coils. Does something else have to be removed in order to view. Any photo or drawing of engine number location available?

On my '74 XJ12L, The number is stamped on the back of the block btween the cylinder banks just ahead of where the bell housing attaches. I can't imagine that the position of the engine numbers changed on the twelve cylinder engines in later years. Hope this helps.
