Have three concours jags, but never have owned an xjs. Any input as to most desirable year and least troublesome. Actively looking and have done my homework, but would appreciate additional input from owners and/or others experienced with this model.. My inclination, based on my research is a six and in the 1992-1996 range.

If you are looking for a rare car try the Cabriolet. Approximately 3,800 V-12s produced. Probably only a few hundred in the states. Solid car without the cowl shake and interior noise of the convertibles.

I have owned a 1996 XJS convertible and still own a 1993 XJR-S coupe. I believe the best driver's car, the most reliable, and the one with the most potential as an investment (with the usual caveats about finding one at the right price) is a 1996 XJS Celebration Edition convertible. It has one of the smoothest drive trains, is a joy to drive, and looks great. The modest upgrades from the 1995 model are worth it.

Another option might be trying to find one of the very rare 1994/1995 V-12s but there are so few of these it might be a long search.

I have done my research as well and concluded that 1995 and 1996 is your best bet in the 4 Liter engine. I have purchased my 1995 XJS Convertible in September of last year and so far haven't had any problems. If you can manage to find a 1996 for a decent price, go for it. It has a couple of minor upgrades that the 1995 does not offer. Plus, it is always nice to have a car made in the last year of production.
