Can anyone advise me where I can buy "green" backlight bulbs for my clock display , I can only find "blue" ones for sale and my radio light is green . Or do they use a blue light to obtain the green colour through the display module ?
thanks.

Hey Jeff , I guess you inspired me , I just finished pulling them out, pretty easy and only had to disconnect one plug . They are both clear/white so I now have a pattern to take to the store . Only one appears to be whooped doing a continuity test so I guess they run in sequence (I hope so anyway) . It's a May day holiday here so I can't do a thing until tomorrow , the centre console has gone back temporarily with only 50% of the screws etc. Tomorrow it'll be done , thanks for the help Jeff.

Paul,

Even though the clock backlight bulbs I removed where white/clear and the LEDs I replaced them with were called "super white" the clock itself has a blue color (similar to the background around the word "blue" under the blue LED picture above). It is not the same color as the odometer / trip computer lighting. I am not sure if the odometer backlight uses the same bulbs or not. You have all sorts of options: Blue bulb = deep blue backlight, green bulb = greenish blue?, amber bulb = kelly green backlight?.

Thanks Jeff , I appreciate the info , I think I'll order 4 of whichever I decide that way I can make sure they're all the same colour at least . My radio lights are definately green to my eyes , as is the kms readout , however I'm told it might be the colour of the module with a blue light behind it that gives it the green look . Interesting to say the least , I guess I'll find out soon enough, thanks again.

Paul,

I have just replaced the light for the clock in my '94 XJ40. From the research I have done it appears that all of the XJ40s ('88-'94) used the same bulbs to backlight the clock. See the link below for the actual Jag replacement bulb:

http://www.northeastbritishparts.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/7098/BULB%20-%20CLOCK%...

These appear to be the stock bulb and they are blue (though, the ones I took out of my car were clear/white). I thought that $10 per bulb (there are two used for the clock backlight) was a bit steep so I looked elsewhere. These little bulbs are known as "neo-wedge" (NW1 or NW2). I found http://superlumination.com/74.htm which had the correct bulbs for $1.50 (incandescent) or $2.50 (LED). I opted for the LED bulbs because they were available in white. I had already replaced the factory radio to get an in-dash CD player and did not need to match the light-color between the clock and the radio. The new bulbs work great. The web site above has both the LED and the incandescent bulbs in green and blue (see attached picture).

Good luck! I hope this info is of help.
