Am having air conditioning unit converted because told parts not availble. being done by Ccoventry Motors Pickering Ontario Jag dealer with Jag parts. Will I lose any points in Concours Championship class because of this conversion?

Doug:

I think that switching from R12 to R134a, with the change in the ports, is allowed, as this is a legislated requirement, just as the addition of seat belts to older cars is required in some jurisdictions, and possibly the addition of the third stop light, and daytime head lights on, in some Canadian jurisdictions.

If it is for some/one of the physical components that are being changed, then if you can show/document that the change is the official part number change from Jaguar, then this is allowed as well for Championship class. If the judge cannot see the change, such as a change in the evaporator, then it is a moot point.

I presume you are talking about changing from R12 refrigerant to R134a.

Except for slightly different fittings screwed onto the charging ports...which only a very sharp judge would notice... the conversion should be invisible.

I don't know if there is anything in the Concours handbook to address this issue...probably not. I wouldn't give it a second thought but let's wait for some judges to chime in and hear what they have to say.
