Concerning a 1982 xjs HE V12. I have resently knocked off a hose attatched to the distributor. It seems to be an air hose that goes from the distributor cap to another air hose attatched to the airfilter box/aux. air valve. A white plastic connector that connects the hose to the distributor seems to fall into the cap so I can't reattatch the hose. This does not seem to effect the car in any way. It still starts up and run as normal. I was wondering how importent is this air connection? and what is this air connection for? Thanks.

That's the distributor vent system. Fresh air is pulled through to evacuate crankcase vapors. It prevents distributor explosions.
Its not too difficult to remove the cap and retrieve the little connector, which can be glued in place with epoxy.
