i've done some tweaking to the forum software including adding avatars to forum registrations.

To add one, simply go to the Update Registration page (from the forum home page) and upload an image. Unless you are a young good looking Female member, please stick to pictures of your Jaguars! :-)

note that avatars must not be bigger than 150x150 pixels and under 25kb, so make sure you resize your images before uploading. If you try to upload something larger than 25k, it's not going to work...

if you dont' have an image utility on your computer, try downloading Irfanview from the link below; it's easy small and easy to use yet quite powerful.

also, your signature is now dynamically added to your posts as they are displayed, not when you type a post. Updating your signature in your User Registration automatically updates it in all future posts from today. Signatures in previous posts remains.

"Click on browse button to locate a file on your computer. File will be uploaded to JCNA server when you click on Submit button at the bottom of this page."

this is just below the browse button... i really don't know how much clearer i can make it !

you dont' need to worry about bit count or dpi or... all you need to do is open the image, choose Image>resize. type in 150 in width (the heigth will be automatically resized).

then File>save as. Make sure Show Option dialog is checked at the bottom so you can set compression to 60 using the slider on the right of the file save window. obviously save it in a different locaion or name so that yu dont' overwrite the original image.

that's it.

then go to your profile and click on upload avatar button to select the NEW file.

Resizing is indeed easy but changing the image bit(byte?)count seems impossible. Most images are well over 500Kb

The current avatar was a test as it was a random image that fit the storage (Kb)limit --- how easy is it to change/delete?

yeah dan... thank you for testing this out.. i see that the code to resize oversize images doens't work and your avatar takes too much space.

have you tried downlading irfanview from www.irfanview.com ??? it's as easy as it gets. what part don'tyou get ?

Ps i'll fix your avatar

So, how do you send an off the board letter to someone - the name used to be a link to the author. Is that now uncool? I was going to send a thumbnail (ew gross) to Ginger as I STILL cannot resize the image due to computer impairment.

yeah, it was time to do some updating... i'm working on the gallery page too...

also in the works, converting most pages to a wider format, like the home page or calendar page... wider screens are becoming very popular so it doens't make any sense to waste any real estate space... I'm adding an extra column which will only contain non critical or optional stuff so that folks with smaller screens dont' miss out on anything important...

traditional avatars are usually around 90 pixels, i thought it give you all a little more size... hey ginger, i see you're putting it to good use, if 90 pix whide, we couldn't see your boyfriend in her avatar :-)

If you don't have a photo editing program, or haven't done it before, you can use the free program Pascal posted a link for - Irfanview. It''s easy to download and install. Once it's installed, you just open the image in Irfanview, and then choose Image, Resize/Resample. Make it very small like Pascal specified, and save it in the small version.

Or......If you want to send me a photo, I'll resize it down for you. :-)
