I am restoring a 62 XKE Roadster. The fuel pump failed, and when I removed it, I found it was an American backfit. I have called several Jag parts suppliers, and have received conflicting info on what the proper pump should be. My Jaguar Spares Division, Spare Parts Catalogue, Jaguar 'E' Type manual (Grand Touring Models), which applies to Open Left-Hand Drive XKE's Chassis No. 875001 Onwards (my chassis No. is 878047)seems to indicate (on Pg. 156) that the proper pump is Part No. C.19919, Petrol Pump Assembly (78387/D-2.FP). I must admit, I'm not proficient at reading this parts catalogue, and I could be interpreting it wrong. My Jaguar E Type 3.8 & 4.2 Owners Workshop Manual published by Haynes says, "The Lucas 2FP fuel pump is fitted to earlier model 3.8 litre cars ..." The fuel tank assembly "Plate Explosion" (Plate 34) in the Jag Parts Manual shows a pump that looks somewhat like the detailed illustrations in the Haynes manual, and the part description is similiar (Haynes - 2FP, Jag Parts Man. D-2.FP).

What is the proper fuel pump? Where can I get one?

I agree. Just get a new in-the-tank type pump and be done with it. If it was something oddball back in '62, odds are no one will have it anyway.

Hi Maston

I own a 67, so Im not really familiar with the 62s. But I think the critical detail is whether your pump is inside or outside the fuel tank. Mine is outside and there are a number of possiblities, all of which work fine. Possible suppliers are SNG Barrart, NH (1-800-452-4787), XKs Unlimited CA (1-800-444-5247), Terrys Jaguar Parts IL (1-800-447-4587), and Welsh OH (1-800-875-5247).

Good luck

Curt
