Hi,

I'm having fuel delivery problems, (not starting reliably, stalling, quitting). I hear that there is a flaw in the design that was the subject of a recall.

I've found new pumps priced from $135-$635 but I dread removing the tank and replacing the pump.

Has anyone added an aftermarket booster pump that can be put inline without removing the old pump?

Thanks,

Robert

Robert, I just replaced the pump in my 94. I got the pump online from Jag parts and it cost me $150, $180 with shipping. That price is just for the pump. The $635 price is for the whole pump housing. Here is the problem. The pump once you get it out of the tank is just pressure sealed to the fuel lines in the tank. Once you get the pump out you will see what I mean. If you replace just the pump you risk damaging the ring that seals the pump to the lines. This is tricky. If you damage that ring, then you are back to buying the $635 housing. So be careful. The pump should be pushing about 70#'s to the rail, you need at least 40#'s just to get it running and any leakage around that seal and you are toast.
The car takes a very high fuel pressure to run so other pumps are useless. We replaced mine without much incident other than after all was said and done, it would not start. We traced it down to a bad wire on the fuel relay that fed into the ECU. The ECU was not feeding proper power to the injectors once the key was on. In start position the injectors would get just a touch of juice, but then die as the key went back to on. Took us about 6 hours to trac down the faulty wire on the relay, which incidently was probably why the pump went.
Good luck, I hope that this helps
