Hello,
Can someone tell me the color of the engine block on a 64 3.8 liter e type?
Also there is a plate just under the brake and clutch reservoir bottles. Is it painted (if so what color) or just left aluminum? Brake fluid did a good job of cleaning it!
Thanks
Dick

Hi Dick, I have a NOS 4.2 block and head (both unnumbered) and the factory finish on the block is a very low gloss black paint. Duplicolor makes and engine enamel 500 degree
ceramic spray paint (de1634) low gloss black paint that matches the factory finish. One of my cars is gloss and one is this low gloss and now I wish both were low gloss. Oh well.

Regards,
Allen

The splash shields under the vac reservoir and under the slave cylinder are flat black. As well as the engine side of the right front wheel guard.

If you can go to the trouble, 2-part automotive paint will last a long time. If you use Krylon, expect to be touching it up every now and then.

Thanks Patrick,
The plate I was asking about is the splash plate about a foot below the brake and clutch bottles. At ground level. It's aluminum but I suspect it was originally painted, maybe black? I have seen some left aluminum colored and others painted black.

The engine block should be gloss black. The cylinder head valley should be gold, The firewall plates should be cadmium plated.
