It appears now more than ever time for JCNA to provide support for Regional Directors............ This idea was fostered initially by Gary Hagopian , lets face it unless you have a fair chunk of disposable income it is not easy justifying spending a bunch of cash to attend a JCNA Board Mtg...
As of now the Pres. is the only person who gets reimbursed I believe.
We need good people to run JCNA and with over 300,000 US $ in the bank it is about time something was offered to directors........The cost of a simple flight and a one night stay in the hotel would be the minimum that should be covered out of JCNA funds...............
Lets Do it..........

JCNA .........time to update conditions for continuing support.
Steve and Sherman.........
1. Please regard this an e mail / letter to you both............. please discuss an option whereby Regional Directors may apply to have their basic costs of attending JCNA BOD meetings repaid as of 2010.
2. The cost of annual JCNA Membership is quite low, and I am sure members can afford an extra couple of dollars per year to support their parent organization, whom in turn could then support Directors who may not always have cash on hand to support an organization with such assets.
3. Please discuss the payments made to affiliate groups who apply for Concour / Slalom / activities support each year. I believe our group was denied any payment as we sent in our application perhaps a day or so late to Nelson for 2009 and so received NIL. I believe there should be some leniency on this item, perhaps a week or ten days would suffice.
4.Where can ordinary JCNA members find an accounting of what all club revenues are, and what they are used for, many members have asked me this question and I am unsure.

I think any discussion of this topic should include the support provided by the member's own club, if any. When I was on the Board, I was fortunate to have an active club that covered their expenses by dues and fund raisers. (It also helped to have a club sponsor that covered our largest expense - printing and mailing the newsletter. Now we email it and snail mail it to the 6 who lack PCs.)
My point is that my club budgeted for 60-67% of my BOD and AGM expenses, requiring receipts after the fact. Seems other clubs could help their rep too. Their percentage may vary.
Finally, it's not like $300K is just sitting there excess to our needs. As I recall, Nels has the maturity dates "laddered" so some interest is available each month to defray club expenses. Drawing down that pot means less interest income, which would likely have to be made up by someone - and we know who.

There has been a lot of discussion on the subject of financial aid to directors for attending events, but as of yet, there is no formal proposal sent to me or Sherm so nothing will be discussed at the fall e-meeting.
If you have an agenda item, please send it to both Sherm, staffelcomcast.net AND me, skennedyecentral.com, by September 20th, 2009.

JCNA .........time to update conditions for continuing support.
Pascal, don't get me wrong. I know that there are many that can do the fill in stuff. The problem is to developed new systems that all will want to use. Having been in systems for over thirty-five years, I know how difficult that can be. My first message in this series pointed out that JCNA was an umbrella organization, and thus was not able to control the individual clubs. In many ways its like herding cats, everyone wants to go their own way. That being said, there is much to recommend a single automated system. One consequence of our current system, is that the membership chairs are more bookkeepers than recruiting and retention specialist. We need more of the latter, but with all the paperwork, they tend to get bogged down in bookkeeping. Oh, BTW, I first joined a JCNA club ten years ago.

Pascal, we cannot stop trying. I know we keep both the email and car information (I cannot take credit for that as JCOF has done that for years before I took over the JCNA and/or the JCOF membership chair). The system that I was proposing was one that would force all of the clubs to have a centralized membership system. They would have to work on-line. Right now most of the forms that we work with are on paper. Part of the problem is that only you and few others including my self are computer completely literate. I have been sent stuff via snail mail because a club chair did not know how to attach a spreadsheet, nor did he want to learn. I am slowly trying to bring JCNA up to 21st century. I wish you had more time to help with that effort, but I understand your limitations, now. After all, as I stated in an earlier post, we are a volunteer organization, and have to live with the limitations of our volunteers.

At JOCLA every new member is welcomed in the newsletter, which seems reasonable and of course introduced at their first event. Pascal, I understand the need to make your point, but NOTHING can make the DMV look or act more efficiently.

Pascal, at the last two BOD meetings, I pushed for including email address on the JCNA application. It has not happened. JCOF does collect them, and we get the new members into the loop fairly quickly. I may not respond to each new member (I do to many though). I have been pushing for an new automated system that would add the new members to the online database when they joined, notifying the individual clubs. The system could also produce newsletter labels and other things for the individual clubs. I again mentioned this at the last two BOD meetings. There is only so much that I can do.

Your correct, but each club has its own membership chair that along with the club's president is supposed to handle those things. With my club, we put them on the email list and they start to get email within a week or two. While we don't always greet the individually, we do let them know that they are members. If they have questions, we respond as soon as possible. However, that's Jaguar Club of Florida. Other clubs do it their way. JCNA is an umbrella organization (think of a confederacy rather than a republic), and only loosely regulates individual clubs. I don't even know if someone joins another club and have no way of finding out (at least for several months) if they have joined. One problem, that we have, is that it takes about two months for the membership process to complete. We would like to happen faster, but we don't have the facilities to make that happen currently. I hope that answers you question, otherwise email me and lets discus it.

If you guys would reconize your members more you may have more funds. I joined about two months ago and never received a comfirmation of my membership much less welcome to JNAC. I started to put in a refind for my dues through pay-pal but decided if the fund were there I would leave them there. You have a great club with a lot of expert advise but your members should be reconized when they join.

I have already spoken to Dick Maury regards this issue , he said he would bring it up at the fall meeting. so that should be enough to get the ball rolling. Apparently the fall mtg will be merely a conference call so as to save money , and also be carbon friendly I suppose.

Art,
If you would like to make a formal proposal to be reviewed at the fall board meeting and possibly voted on at the March AGM, now is the time to do it.
We will have to ask Nelson what kind of financial impact that would do on the reserves.
Your suggestion of JCNA covering the cost of a flight, say $400 plus hotel, $125, thats $525 times 12 directors = $6300 per year times 2 when you include the fall meetings = $12,600 annually.
There would have to be some way to recover such expenses, whether through higher dues or some other way that you may have in mind. It would not be wise to deplete the account just because it is there. $12,600 divided by 6000 members would be an increase of $2.10 per membership.
As for the president's stipend, I have used it very sparingly. It was designed to ecourage the president to attend other club events. And as many of you know, I had major back surgery for the 4th of July and I have not done any traveling after that this year.
