Re.: Restoration shop fraud, Mike Cummins, Jaguar Central
Whew! Quite a thread this has become! A couple of points. In re Ray's "cridibility," I for one would rate that as a10/10. Regarding his being "over-zealous" in pursuit of fraudsters on eBay or on the periphery of JCNA, I couldn't disagree with this more. While I, too, consider myself fairly sophisticated in re phishing scams and the like, the first eBay one Ray brought to my attention could have reeled me in like a mackerel (had I had any spare cash at the time). Similarly, I was only just recently actually taken by a snail-mail scam surrounding my having just registered an LLP. As this was a totally new thing for me, what I took as an official government mailer found me as credulous as could be. I only called my attorney because I didn't understand some of the terminology they used in asking for information (which was, of course, to accompany non-trivial monetary payments as well). Fortunately, I was clued in once again before any money was wasted. The point is, this rampant criminality, particularly of the cyber variety but also not (the Cumminses are a piece of work that leave me speechless!) is a phenomenon of which we are clearly all going to be constrained to be increasingly vigilant. To that end, I consider "zealots" like Ray to be doing us all a tremendous service. Finally, offering to swap an XJ6, no matter how lovingly restored, for an XK120 even-up strikes me as preposterous on its face, and offering as a rationale that it would serve as a "more modern" conveyance for an inadequately informed owner (seeking information!)? Words fail.

Hey Ray,
You are not even a member of JCNA and to my way of thinking you seem to be the "King of attacking people and at at the very least, a self-appointed watch dog of eBay".
Piss off.

to whoever feel adressed :
It would be of great help ,if you would keep this tread "clean" and uncluttered .
The basic subject deserves our focus.
thanks,soren

Here's a picture oh my XJ6. New paint, new interiri upholstery (seats, carpets, headliner), new burl walnut dash and console, new chrome rims & tires, new brakes, new engine (major rebuild), rebuilt transmission, new exhaust, new chrome and more.

Re.: Restoration shop fraud, Mike Cummins, Jaguar Central
Nice looking car.
I have spent approximately $20K towards a complete restoration of my 1987 XJ6 so I felt the offer was a fair one at the time, in case she wanted something "newer and more comfortable" to drive. Also I had not seen a picture of the coupe.
I am not sure why you feel the need to comment in this forum on something that frankly, "is none of your business" and is in no way related to the current topic.

Dan,
My mistake - it's spelled "omphaloskepsis" (google it). I do it all the time while thinking about my Jaguars...

Ray would be welome to be in club with me here in Canada and I mean really welcome ... without that "...smarter than the average bear" hubris.

Re.: Restoration shop fraud, Mike Cummins, Jaguar Central
Hey Ray,
Why not become a "member" of a local JCNA affiliated Jaguar club in your area????
Maybe that way you would have more cridibility with JCNA members. When I read your rants against eBay and eBay scammers you sound a little over zealous. Most of us are pretty smart are wouldn't fall for the ridiculous scams you so often describe.

Oops. Make that "google," not "goggle..." Might not be a place you'd want to ogle though, judging by a brief look at the search results.
