I have a 1993 XJS Convertable. I believe it is somewhat rare in that it has a manual 5 speed transmission. It runs well but needs tires, brakes, and front end work + to pass inspection ($2000-$4000??) My mechanic says he doesen't think it is worth fixing. I have no idea of the value of the car, but I love driving it. Is this car worth fixing. If not, suggestions? Your input and suggestions would be welcomed.

You are right - it is very rare; very few made and imported to the US market. If I had your XJS I would fix it rather than sell it. Your mechanic needs to brush-up on his Jag knowledge; yours is a rare Jaguar. I wonder, did he suggest he "take it off your hands"?

It IS a desirable and somewhat rare ...in the USA at least.....variant.

I don't know if it's "worth it" purely relative to the resale value ...probably not....but, personally, I'd go ahead and plunk down the money to keep it on the road because I like the car and it's unique...and it would be a shame to let it go all to hell, if ya know what I mean.

One thing to consider, though, is body rust. If the car is rusty (is it?) the resale value is reduced to virutally nil despite being a desirable build configuration.
