I bought my son a '94 XJ6 for a college car. While he and the car is home for the holidays, I'm trying to get some things fixed on the car. Since purchase, it has always had a heavy musty odor inside. I always figured this was the carpet and/or floor mats.

In doing some on-line research, I hear that there is a "cabin air filter". Unfortunately, his repair manual is up at school, so I can't look this up.

So my questions is does the '94 XJ6 have a "cabin air filter" and is it separate from the engine air filter? (I assume so).
If so, exactly where would I find this air filter?

Besides this air filter and the carpets, is there anything else in the AC system that can cause this odor?

Many thanks in advance.

I've had good luck in the past by placing an open bag of charcoal on the floor of the rear cabin. That got the musty odor out of several old cars I've had.

Patrick I would check the boot as there are issues with water entering thru the glan for the filler neck. Also the AC drain lines tend to get clogged.
