the speedometer needle is bouncing erradically, especially when going over bumps. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? over 75 mph it seems to be fine.

I think Doug D hae it. I have never experienced a bouncing meter due to a failing drive--(they normally have bouts of working vs not but bumps have never had a play except with loose or frayed wires but I can see where a loose unit might do that.

Doug T. it sounds like you need to drive faster, lol! Doug D may be right, the transducers were very unreliable. I recall having a similiar reaction from one, it seemed to only work on drive, not on overrun. It took us a couple of days to discover that the output shaft nut was loose!

Erratic speedometers on these cars are most commonly caused by a failing transducer, located on the right side of the transmission, about $100, and easy to replace.

However, the "over bumps" aspect suggests a loose connection somehwere along the line or perhaps a chaffed wire. I'd check that angle first before replacing the transducer.
