I have recently purchased a 1990 XJS convertable with "Top Problems".
There is no power getting to the rocker switch on the console and I'm trying to locate the source of my problem. I'm looking for schematics showing the relays and how everything is tied together. I've replaced the cylinders and hydraulic lines, have a new swithch, but need information.

I would also like some clarification on how the rear windows operate. I've looked through the manual and believe I have a handle on this, but with no power yet, I'm not sure.

This is my first post and I'm not sure I'm approaching this right, any guidence will be appreciated. I'm looking foreward to some serious "summer top-down crusing", if you catch my drift.

Don it is not MY site it is YOUR site--it is in fact this site!!! Scroll up on this page and see JCNA Shoppe in the lower left of the green banner--click there and on the shoppe page go to workshop manuals --just do not know exactly which car you have but assume it is a V 12 but you can check. Don who I am is listed under my signature but feel free to call 803-760-9460. And yes there is a switch in the handbrake and if it is broken or out of adjustment the top will not work----safety feature for those in Hollywood who want to drop the top at 65 MPH. Glad you have that fine car --mine approaching 200k and need seats and a new top--naw I will just leave it down.

George, thanks for the input. I am going through a "learning curve" with this car and have allot to learn. I do remember reading about the hand brake situation and believ it has been set during my testing. I will verify and test again.
Is there a limit switch in the hand brake that allows the power to the switch and is there the possibility that it has failed?
How can I establish which manual I need and please clarify who you are and about your Shoppe. Do you have a webb site?

Don the first advise I would give you is to purchase a workshop manual that discusses the function in detail and has the wiring schematics.. You can get the correct official manual here in the Shoppe but I am not sure if you need B-J84WH or B-J85WH. As far as the rear windows are concerned they are triggered by micro switches and they retract when the top starts down. You do know you must have the hand brake set before the top will work right? Let us know how we can help you and good luck.
