Ok here is a few questions I have on my 4.2 1 1/2 roadster.
My tach has never been accurate as when going 65 mph I'm in red line. How do you calibrate it or is it shot?

My speedometer is out the drive cable does not spin. How do I determine if it is the sending unit? I have tried a new cable already.

I put new front brakes and calipers in but the wheels do not turn easily, but you do not hear the brakes rubbing. Ideas?

This one is for the books. After driving 65 mph for about an hour straight I let off the gas for the off ramp and smoke filled the air so much so people behind could not see. It lasted for only a few seconds then stopped, the oil pressure gauge went down to 20 but within a mile was right back to normal. Anything to be concernec about?

As always thanks for your help and insight.

Bob

Ah, yes, the brakes and all the appurtences joining them. Leakers! Having had more than my share of E-types (6), the brakes are the weak link in the chain, and if you let the car sit, you will have the same experience, over and over again. The solution is really simple, and expensive, and certainly not 'original' to the car. Brakes have come a long way in thirty-plus years, and yes, you can have 'new' ones that work every time and last for 300,000 miles. Just check pad thickhess once in a while and bleed 'em once a year.

Bob the smoke you saw seems to have been brake fluid burning through your engine--remove the vac. hold tank and you should gind it is full of brake fluid. Your booster needs rebuilding or replacement and you chould check the vac. check valve also. The angle drive can be repaired but replacement is often less time consuming and results in a better solution--try SNG Barratt for all parts but you will need to clean out your vac res.

HI George long time no talk.
Since I did the brakes myslef I'm not sure they are right but the last time I had the garage do them they were worse so I tried myself. Will look everything over again.

Is the angle drive repairable?

I'm always putting brake fluid in the rear brake tank.

Less than 500 miles on the oil change.

Again thanks

Bob your tach can be rebuilt--try Nissonger.
There is no sending unit for your speedo as such but there is an angle drive--if the cable is broken it will not spin so first find out if the cable is ok--then check the angle drive.
As far as your brakes--if they work well then what you hear is most likely the dust shield (S) which may have been bent-make sure your bridge pipes are not rubbing the wheels---if the wheels do not turn easily are you sure everythig was installed correctly?
Finally your smoke could be the symptom of a failing booster--are you low on brake fluid? If so when is the last time you changed your oil and filter?
