I have a series 1 E type at 41000 miles. I can see from the history that the crankshaft bearings were replaced at 24000 mile along with the Con rod Bearings. We are trying to solve what we thought was valve ticking when the engine warmed up which we hope is down to carbon build up on the valves and pistons. I was surprised to see such carbon build up as the pistons were changed just 6000 miles ago. The car did misfire a few yrs back which was solved by changing the plug leads.
Is it ususal for crank shaft bearings to wear out in 24000 miles and apart from too rich a fuel mix could there be other reasons for excessive carbon build up in 6000 miles?

24000 miles is barely run in. So unless the mileage is wrong, something unusual caused the premature failure. It could be any of a number of reasons leading to poor bearing lubrication. is any reason given on your records? And why would "NEW" pistons be fitted at 35000? As for the carbon build up, this is mostly caused by burning oil, so from the issues described I would investigate the mileage figure as it sounds like a worn out engine!!
