My new complete front frame assembly has finally arrived today from E-Type Fabs and looks super. I understand the side frame rails need to be painted the same color as the car (red) but what about the picture frame and the bonnet frame? The current front frame assembly on the car is all black (possibly to hide existing damage?), so words of wisdom from you experts out there would be much appreciated as to whether I should paint the picture and bonnet frames red or leave them black. Although this is a Driven Division rather than a Concours class car I would like to keep it reasonably correct. Thanks

Dan - The frames were on last week. The side rails fit really well but the picture frame bolt holes were about a half inch wider than the frame rail matching holes. This could have been a car problem as much as a new frame issue. Had to loosen the frame rail bolts at the firewall and use a persuader to spread them apart to fit the picture frame. Probably should have loosely bolted the picture frame on first and then bolted the rails to the firewall but I wanted to roll the engine in place before adding the picture frame. All in all I am well pleased with the result. The newly painted red frame and firewall (which were previously black) look really good now. The front suspension parts are being powder coated so it will be a while before I finish - hope it runs then and there are no left-over parts!

Dan - I sure hope you're right as getting the old frames off was a real bear (the nuts inside the footwell were the worst and I didn't have any help) but I finally succeeded. Now I have to clean and paint the engine compartment (which is absolutely filthy) before putting the new frames on. At least the new hardware should help.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I was brain dead and didn't think of the Concours Judging Guide Bob.
Dan, I chose Uryk because his web site was very compehensive regarding all details and he had been recommended. He was also most responsive and helpful. Martin Robey, on the other hand did not provide much information and when I sent an inquiry via their web site I did not get a response. Maybe I should have e-mailed them.

Alan,
Take a look at the S2 E-Type Judging Guide that will be towards the bottom of the Concours section of this website. It should answer any questions that you have.

Thanks Robert. Is there anything else that should be red to match the body? Someone had gone over the entire engine compartment with black (except the underside of the bonnet and the bulkhead), including all the front suspension components which I thought should be silver (?), so I can't tell what's original black and what's had the color changed to black. I also bought a new Radiator Duct Shield which came in black and a used Mud Shield which had been painted silver

They should all be the same color. There are small holes in the mounting plates of the sub frames that go into the tubing that were probably there to vent any pressures created when they were brazed. We always pour a small amount of oil in these holes before assembly and splash it around some as a rust preventive. If you have an engine stand the hot set up on painting the side frames is to bolt it/them to the stand so you can rotate it/them while you're painting.
