I have a 58 XK150 DHC and it is left hand drive. Next to the steering wheel is cubby box that is open and to the left of the box is a hole about half inch in diameter at the bottom of the cubby box. What would go in this hole? All the pictures I have seen block this area and I cannot tell. I would appreciate any help and Thank You in advance. Michael Schenkman

This car is a four speed with no overdrive. I have looked at different books but the steering wheel hides what is at that spot just left of the open cubby box if you can call it that and even with the bottom of that open box. Thanks for the help. Michael Schenkman

By any chance does your car have the automatic transmission? With these cars there is an intermediate speed hold switch in the dash to the left of the cubby box. This switch activates a solenoid preventing the transmission from shifting into third gear. In manual transmission cars with overdrive, this switch controls the overdrive unit.

If the car does not have overdrive then perhaps the facia is from another car--in 1958 there would have been no brake warning light unless retrofitted--that came in on the 150s about the same time the tach generator appeared. (1960)
