Hi
Hope you don't mind me asking a question or two regarding E type cooling.
I am restoring a 1968 S1,5 OTS. I read with great interest an artical written way back in 2003 by Ray Livingstone about installing an Aluminium radiator ( Howes 342B ) in a S1 3,8. I am thinking about giving this a try. I live in Germany, the repair costs or repairing or replacing the original Radiator would be about $700, so even with shipping and import duties I would save considerably if I import from the States.
The artical by RL wrote for JNCA way back in 2003 is extreemly well written and informative, however I have some questions, which you may be able to help me with.
From the pictures of the Howe 342B radiator I cannot see if there are any fixing brackets already on the radiator, as bought, or do I have to weld suitable brackets on in my workshop??
Also on my S1,5 4,2 there is a bleed pipe from the thermostat to the Rad. which would reqire me to weald a 3/8" nipple welding to the RHS radiator tank. I have a MIG welder, and have become fairly competant in welding thin steel but have never tried to weld Aluminium. ( You Tube says its possible ) Or would you recommend simply flame welding the new fittings to the radiator.
Again thanks for a great inspirational JNCA articals
Kind regards
Mike ( an english guy living in germany )

do not weld yourself....take to a fabrication shop that does lots of TIG welding of aluminum. you can ruin a good radiator in a hurry without experience of welding aluminum.
