Thank you to anyone who may be able to help. I have brought back a series 1 XKE to life. I started on it last October and it was completely dis-assembled(lots of missing parts). I am having trouble getting all the air of of the clutch system. I have bled it both ways(injection and vacuum)and the pedal still needs to be pumped to get the clutch to release after sitting. Any tricks?

As George says, sounds just like a bad M/C.
First rule of automotive repair states:
"Just because it's a new part doesn't mean it's a good part".
Something has failed.

If it happens overnight, could even be a slave letting air in at the bottom.
That will be identifiable as air being expelled IMMEDIATELY upon bleeding or very close to it.

Thomas as I said before--that is a classic symptom of a master cylinder that is leaking internally--sorry they are all new parts but it is a simple system that in fact you can normally gravity bleed.

Thanks for replying George,all the parts are brand new. I have bench bled both cylinders. I definitely have air trapped somewhere because you could drive it all day,but if it sits,you have to pump it to grab a gear. I didn't know if there was another trick for bleeding.

Thomas you are describing an internally leaking clutch master cylinder. If you have no leaks then you need to rebuild or replace the master. This assumes you have the operating rod adjusted per the manual.
