Recently purchased a 69 E type...been out of them for 25 years, and getting set up for driving and maintenance here in southern cal.

Also just purchased the "big green manual" by Jag Cars Unlimited...(I had one of these manuals years ago with one of the previous cars)and going right to the general information page in the beginning - I already am being thrown a loop.

The page uses Chassis Number as the reference point for changes, then, the book goes on as you read thru to explain when certain changes were implemented (especially for the 4.2 1969) in many pages throughout the book in the supplements...makes sense

The ID tag in the battery compartment shows car# which I assume is what the book calls chassis number...however...the car # on the tag for me starts with 1R and is then followed by a 4 digit number...the book on (for example) the carb supplementary page is a 6 digit number with only numerals...

The book references Engine Number, Gearbox Number, Body Number all of which I have on the body plate in the battery compartment...but seems to be other conflicts in other places within the manual...

Any explanations would be appreciated.

I hate to sound stupid, but I never paid much attention to the clubs. I've loved and had a bunch of MG's Triumphs and Jags thru the years...got away from it for awhile, and now have a very solid TR-6 and this great Jag Roadster I just bought from a guy who actually got it as his high school graduation present 40 years ago...

Went on line and bought this manual which I am now thinking is a bit of a turkey...and, was stuck on a cooling fan/tachometer failure issue with the car yesterday, spent about 2 hours with my "trusty" manual going absolutely nowhere...and on a flyer, came in and googled the problem and was connected to one of your forum sites...and after reading some of the threads, (obviously you have a lot of knowledgeable guys passing advice around), one of the threads mentioned something that "clicked"

I fixed the problem about 30 seconds later...so I am sold on your organization...and that is how I got here...very impressive network to say the least

Are you allowed to recommend any service manuals for a series 2 at your site and what kind of vehicle do you have?

Bernie

Sorry English is my first language although from that post you would never guess--what I meant is I did not know why you didn't buy from the JCNA shoppe--great prices!

Bernard not why you did not buy from the shoppe here--in any case your 69 Vin should start 1R--later series 2 cars started 2R but not in 69. I think what you have "Green Book" is the 3.8 L service manual --there were several suppliments --one for the 4.2 and one for the series 2 car--hopefully you are just not looking in the right area but if you are and they are not there why not purchase the correct books here--we even offer an illustrated parts manual (it is wonderful) which Jaguar never issued! Good luck.
