From Father to Son to Show-Winner
From father to son to show-winner – the rebirth of a 1961 Jaguar E-type by Kurt Ernst, August 8, 2019Henry Platts’s 1961 Jaguar E-type, fresh from a 40-month restoration. Photos courtesy Henry Platts and John Saccameno.
Henry Platts wasn’t yet born when his father Patrick received a 1961 Jaguar E-type as a present from his wife, Diane, in 1982. Henry came along four years later, and remembers his father’s obsession with the rarely driven sports car; in fact, he credits the Jaguar with instilling his life-long love of automobiles. Patrick died in 2013, and in 2015, Henry purchased the E-type from his father’s estate. Four years later, the freshly restored Jaguar has just captured its first show win, earning a first-place award (and a score of 99.91) at a Jaguar Clubs North America Concours d’Elegance event.
