March 2025 - South Florida Car Shows

What a dilemma.  So many car shows, so little time.  South Florida is a paradise for car enthusiasts, and earlier this year, the region played host to some of the most spectacular events. Luckily, there were three special events that made their mark in the area we call home.  The Motorcar Cavalcade in Aventura, the Gold Coast British Sports Car Club’s Annual Car Show in Fort Lauderdale, and the ModaMiami Concours in Coral Gables all delivered unforgettable experiences.

Held at the prestigious JW Marriott Turnberry Resort & Spa, the Motorcar Cavalcade Concours d’Elegance has grown in stature and notoriety since its inception three years ago.  Jason Wenig and his team, once again, brought together an amazing collection of vehicles to the event, billed as “Kentucky Derby meets Concours d’Elegance”.    The event combined high fashion, fine dining, and automotive excellence, creating a garden party atmosphere.  To top it off, the weather was incredible.  Unique judging categories made it stand out from traditional concours events, with such classes as “Cock Pit”, “Doors” and “Wheels”.  In the end, every vehicle was beautifully presented.

A couple of weeks later, our sister club, the Gold Coast British Sports Car Club, held their 30th Annual All British Car Show which took place in Fort Lauderdale. There were roughly 70 vehicles of all makes and models competing for people’s choice awards.   We were pleased to see at least seven Etypes, quite a few XK’s and even a heavy competition in the XJS class.   Again, a picture-perfect day, although a little windy, made the day a lot of fun, particularly as the venue was open to the public, allowing many youngsters to see the classics close up.  Congrats to Mike Cohen and the entire organizing team for a successful show!

In early March, for those seeking the ultimate fusion of art, luxury, and automobiles, ModaMiami at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables delivered an experience like no other. Now in its second year, this multi-day lifestyle event had something for everyone.   RM Sotheby’s auction on Friday, was a great opportunity to witness the current car market, both the ups and downs.  Astonishingly, a XK120 alloy (that needed restoration) sold for $80K. Wish we had a bidding pass.  The two-day show itself was memorable with early electric vehicles dating back to the early 1900’s, ultra rare European pre-war vehicles, current hypercars and everything in between.  Again, perfect weather made the event even better, as guests were seen enjoying the live music, sipping champagne and enjoying every Miami has to offer.

As of this writing, The Amelia is underway.  Due to inclement weather, the Concours was moved from Sunday to Saturday, making for a bit of a scramble for organizers and participants, but no doubt a better experience in the end.  Stay tuned!

Next stop, Wheels Across the Pond in Jupiter and the Annual Delray Concours d’Elegance!
