I'm asking this question for friends who are not online. They have what I believe is an early XK150 with auto trans and the selector lever mounted in the center under the dash. From what they tell me, I understand that the same switch serves as the starter lock-out. They cannot adjust the switch such that it will correctly dissallow starting except in P or N, and at the same time, connect the reverse lamp in R. They say the switch seems to be identical to those used on automatic Mk IIs.

Is it the wrong switch?
Is this a common problem?
What's the solution?

Many thanks.
