I bought an e-bay car listed as a 1957 Jaguar XK140MC OTS, however the title reads XK140SE. What is the difference?

Mike all the documents I have for "home market" read exactly as the NA market--standard--modified M and modified MC.

David there were in fact 3 versions of the 140 offered in the North American market. The term SE is normally used for XK120s and it is for "Special Equipment". Jaguar listed three models in the 1956 dealers list of equipment for the 140--they were Standard--modified "M" and "modified "MC". By far the MC was the most common model for this market and the main feature was a "C" type cylinder head which can be recognized by the large raised "C" in the middle of the head (between #3 and #4 sparkplugs). The cam covers carried a "C" type badge but those are transferable. If you want to determine what your car is/was you can request a certificate (see this in the library section) or if you want to tick off the list you may call the JCNA tech line at 888-258-2524 x#3 within the next 30 mins or so. Otherwise please wait till Monday between 8-5 EST. BTW what is the chassis number of the car?

In England the hotter version cars were called SE for Special Equipment. In the US they were called M for Modified and C for the C-type head. Both designations mean the same thing.
