Trying to contact Michael Eck, your website www.jaguarclocks.com is not working.

In a prior XK120 formum you told me that my 1950 XK120 Chassis# 670640 was built in August 1950. I have been trying to reach you to see if you can fax me a copy of the Factory spec sheet you used to identify my car.

Does ANYONE out there have access to Jaguar Factory spec sheets? If so can you "please" fax me a copy of the page showing build information for Chassis# 670640? I need to register the car in California (it has not been registered since 1955) so I need to prove the year of manufacture to the State Department of Motor Vehicles. I need to register the car before I can end off for history fron the Jaguar Heritage Trust (they want proof of ownership papers).

Please fax TOLL FREE to: (866) 328-0168. Or send a scanned copy to: bob5837atla.twcbc.com

Thanks.

Hi John,

Do you work at CCH? Can you please email me off-line? I recently ordered a certificate from CCH and have some questions. Please email me at Bob5837atLa.twcbc.com

Hey George,

Are you kifdding?

I don't think anyone is "selling" anything here. I "bought" service by simply checking out Classic-Car-Heritage.Com website. I will also check out the other two and will buy a Jaguar Heritage Certificate just to have the real deal.

My opiniion is that all the information related to my original question has been provided in good faith and it bacame a spirited thread whic to me is a good thing.

One more thought--If you are a business you have no purchase here--I too have a business but do not Hawk it here--I will contact the webmaster about it.

All I can tell you is I have a "Heritage Certificate" for my Jag.
The first shows distributor and dealer different than the second.

And, no options listed.

I am simply printing out addendums/variations and attaching them to the back of the "Heritage Certificate".

Worth the $58?

Cost of storage and archiving?
Don't they pay "rent"?
Hourly cost to retrive data?

Is St. Arbucks coffee worth four bux?

I am the one to start this thread. I also just requested a record search of my 1950 Xk120 Chassis # 670640 from Classic-Car-Heritage.Com. I hope it's worth the $58 USD I spent.

Well I am glad to hear all of that---but there was a (High Court ) involved right? And there was legal action? Glad it worked out for you. This thread started at some point as an owner wanted more information on his car----your web site seems to suggest that it can provide more information than the factory records--is that true? (two owner example). If you were offended none was intended and my comments were clearly marked as rumor and I never mentioned you or your fine company and in fact till you confirmed that the legal battle was fought by you I had no idea! Perhaps there is a fourth set of film out there!

I don't think we need to let this go any further. Let me say this: I have "known" John through exchanges of information for many years now and I've always found him to be of the highest moral and ethical character. I have known George for many years now having worked with him (on a volunteer basis) at the JCNA level. I have also found him to be of the highest moral and ethical character. Both guys are on the right side of the "good guy-bad guy" equation.

I was curious about this Classic Car Heritage outfit and I asked the question which John and now Mark have provided the response to. It is a business that competes with other suppliers and the basis of quality of service. A healthy level of competition is always good for any business! Good for everyone involved.

Drive on!

Thanks everyonef or all your help .

Can someone tell me if there are more than 2 places to locate a chassis" on the frame? I only know of two places: (1) in front of the radiator, (2) on left-hand side in front of master cyylinder, across and below the rear exhaust manifold. I am having difficulty reading the last digit. It's either a "0" or "9". I do not have the id plate (the original body was removed uring the early 1950's).

Sorry to add confusion to this but there are only two places to get the required information--one is the JDHT the other is the archives which is linked as Daniel said here to Jaguar Archives in the US. I can tell you a date for your car from the service/parts bulletins but that will not give you other information. Now for the sticky part-----It is my understanding that years ago a set of micro-film was "liberated" from Jaguar and is now in the hands of a non-factory source--there was a lot of talk about law suits etc. but at the end of the day evidently nothing was done. I would be very curious where the information that has been posted here came from--is this the 3rd set? And for what it is worth I have been able at many times to view the film in NJ--It is difficult to read some of the handwriting but it is easy if you know the cars! Let it fly now!

So the problem may be that the "car" has been registered under the engine number instead of the chassis number, and who knows, the engine may very well be from 1952 (for example, W4742-8 was built in April of 1952 according to xkdata).

Explaining all of this to the DMV will be a major headache. In your place, I would go with the truth and try to get it it re-registered using the correct chassis number.

You should still get yourself a certificate (for the chassis) from CCH.

Hi John,

Since you seem willing to help out, can you tell me if Engine # W4757-8 belongs on Chassis# 670640?

Also you said in an earlier post that the car went to Hoffman Dealership. Was that a dealer in Northern California?

Any possibility that you can fax a copy of the record sheet you are using to me? My TOLL FREE fax# is (866) 328-0168.

I need something to show the California DMV that support my request to have the car registered as a 1950 XK120 instead of a 1952.

Thanks.

Regading my failed attemps to upload a picture of the car. The picture is under 200K and is .JPG so I don't understand why it won't upload. If anyone wans at picture, my email is bob5837atla.twcbc.com

Before anyone corrects me, I made a "typo error" in my prevuous posting. I said , "The XK150 runs beautifully". I meant to say, "The XK120 runs beautifully".

Daniel,

I am reading the chassis# from 2 different parts of the chassis. (1) Just in front of the radiator, (2) just in front of the master cylinder (LHD).

A brief history of the car:

It may have been built in August 1950 but apparantly it wasn't sold until 1952 when it was first purchased from a dealership in northern California (where it spent its life). I have the Pink Slip Title for the car. In 1952 the DMV used Engine# instead of VIN#. The engine# is W4757-8 and matches the car. I am hoping that the Engine# matches the Chassis#.

The car was also used for racing and at some point before 1955 the body was severely damagaged. The body was removed and a hodge-podge of body parts were put on ( Model A hood, Model T cowel, custom seating compartment, trailer fenders, etc.) It was a disgrace what they did to the car. The car was raced at various tracks and has not been registered with the DMV since 1955. Eventually it was stored in a garage (in Gerber, CA) until the owner died and the car was sold at auction by the estate. I recently purchased the car on eBay from the person who bought it from the auction.

I was going to put on a XK120 fiberglass replica body, believing it too expensive to get body parts but I have since decided to sell the fiberglass body (it's listed on eBay under "Jaguar XK120 Roadster") and drive the car as is until I can locate the body parts I need.

The XK150 runs beautifully, not a bit of smoke. I'm guessing it has fairly low miles since all of its highway driving occured between 1952 and 1955.

I have asked this before in other forums, but if anyone out there has any extra body parts they are willing to donate or sell at a decent price I would be interested. Please contact me "off-line" at my email: bob5837atla.twcbc.com.

Thanks to everyone for the information about my chassis#. Here's a picture of the car.

Thanks "John". I hear they are having a heat wave down your way...

Did you not just contradict yourself? If only JDHT and CCH have access to build records, where did you get your info? I assume you are an employee of one of those two organizations?

Actually, I think I know the answer to that. You must be one of the people behind Classic Car Heritage. And if I understand correctly, CCH charges a fee to provide information from Jaguar factory build records, correct? And I already know that JDHT does the same thing (or puportedly does anyway). So therefore it stands to reason that the two orgnaizations are in competition and the main area upon which they compete is service, correct?

Thanks for clearing that up for us enthusiasts.

BTW, I would guess that the only way for this gentleman to get an "official" piece of paper that lists the build records for his chassis is to apply to JDHT or CCH. I doubt that his local DMV would accept a copy of this forum page or a page from the book by Porter.

Robert: forgive me if I joined this discussion late, but how do you know that your chassis is indeed number 670640? Do you have a chassis plate on the car or are you reading from the numbers stamped into the chassis? Or are you relying on the olf title you have in hand?

Cheers,

Daniel

I would assume he did it the same way I did it: go on www.xkdata.com and enter your chassis number and ask for all chassis numbers +/- 25 away from yours. The results will show you that your car was almost certainly built in August of 1950.

Best of luck,

Daniel

Daniel,

Yes I get it now. Thank you.

I am curious to know however, how Michael Eck was able to tell me that Chassis# 670640 was built in August 1950 without refering to factory specs.

NOBODY OUT HERE HAS ACCESS TO JAGUAR FACTORY SPEC SHEETS.

Got it now?

Read what it says on this website under Heritage Certificates:

The enclosed form (click on link to open and print from your browser) must be completed by the owner and returned to us with proof of ownership; e.g. vehicle registration, title or a notarized bill of sale in the applicant's name. Send only one proof, please. Requests for vehicle information are handled in the order in which they are received. We anticipate that it will take no more than 4 weeks to process your request after we receive the completed. Form. A preliminary report will be issued which we will ask you to verify prior to printing the final 8x12 certificate.

--------------------------------------

Follow the steps and you will get what you are after.
