Hi Brian,
Starting carbs have always been a pain.
Simple solution is to install a rocker switch under
dash. Mine has worked for 28 years. Switch on for
3 seconds as car engine comes to life then off position.
Run one of the black wires back thru fire wall. Rocker switch,
back to starter carb.
