i have a 1989 12cyl xjs i parked it last night and this morning it will not start ..it seems to get spark as i shot some starting fluid in it and it gave the impression that it would run if it had fuel ..however the fuel pump does make noise .i do not know if that is an indication of it working properly or not ..

please let me know if there is anyone with any tips for how to chase the problem down

Do you hear the injectors clicking when you turn the engine over? If not, there may be a problem with the injector harness. Also, did you check the fuel filter?
