1987 xjs v12 coupe needs a gasket around windshield replaced. Is this a big deal? We have a new gasket, but are having a problem with possibly bad info. A windshield person says an additional gasket is necessary. Any help would be appreciated. I would love to get my Limey back on the road again in order to shock and awe the locals!

Thanks

Hi Carolyn,
you are too kind.Personally I would not tackle a windshield , front one especially. I believe there will be several mobile glass installers listed in your yellow pages. These guy's are fluent in this type of work, they do it all the time. For probably around a hundred dollars or so your windshield can be rermoved and reinstalled by a pro.
A person not doing this kind of work all the time could accidentally put a chip or a crack in a perfect windshield, replacement cost, many hundreds of hard earned cash, in my book.
Another way of finding a good installer is to call a reputable Jaguar dealer or two and ask who they use for their glass re and re processes. The trim that fits around the rubber areas can also be tricky to reinstal, so a person fluent with the S' windshield is of great importance.Be sure to get a price and time estimate on the procedure before giving someone the go ahead. There are all kinds of people out there so be carefull,
Sincerely, Art.
PS , another person who is a full time dedicated Jaguar afficianado and Jaguar lover, is Dick Maury of Coventry West,

1987 xjs v12 coupe the gasket around the windscreen is leaking. How big a deal is this to replace? We have the gasket, but are somewhat intimidated.
If Art or Doug (You two seem to be the most knowledgable and intrepid on this forum!) have any ideas I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Carolynn,

Contact the folks at Coventry West. They know XJS's inside and out, and sell the parts to boot. I'm sure they can help you and provide whatever parts you need. NAYYY, just know them well.
