Does anyone know what the letters "EU1S" that precede the ID number stand for? Did North American or US cars have their own prefix?

Thanks George. My car was delivered in London according to the Heritage certificate and has a VIN that starts with EU1S. I assume then that the car was produced for the US market. The reason I ask is because my car does not have emission controls and I did not know if it was delivered that way or the controls were removed at a later date. Thanks again.

Richard I posted to you but it seems to have not made it. The Federal requirements for US vins changed in 1973. I973 Jaguars had a prefix of UD. afterwards it was 1974 UE, 1975 UF, 1976 UG, 1977 UH, 1978 UJ (no I was used for obivious reasons) and then in 1978 the system had to again change.
