Hi, I am jumping into this forum because I am seriously thinking of buying an XJS. I have been put onto a 1993 4.0 convertible, 77k miles, 2 owner, history, charcoal grey with black trim and a genuine US spec 5 speed manual. The car is in very good condition, in full working order. Now, an automatic in this condition seems to be in the 12-15k price range, from my research (let me know if I am wrong here). What I would like to know is what sort of premuim would you expect to pay for a 5 speed car over an auto? I have read the recent threads about the rarity of the 5 speed, but how does this translate into price? (What ever the buyer is willing to pay if Barret Jackson auctions are anything to go by)

If I had a choice I would really like a 1993 or later 4.0 coupe, dark color and trim, with service history, auto is fine too. As coupes are rarer, I would look at a convertible. I live in South Carolina, if anyone may have something or knows of a car that might fit the bill.

Thanks for any information you may have.

The 5 speed does not bring any real premium, the late model XJS are not yet considered collectable, and were targeted at the luxury coupe market anyway, where a 5 speed would be a detriment rather than a desirable feature.

I would think you would pay about what you will pay for an auto trans far. maybe a shade more. But, its all about what its worth to you.
