My 1982 HE V12 engine has for a while now been very loud. Not when idling, but only during acceleration. When I push down the gas paddle, it sounds like a tractor, or a lawn mower. However it does not affect the car's performance. I have had the transmission restored about 2 months ago, and suspect that something might have gone bad here?? The noise seems to be coming from under the car, in the engine area. Hope someone can tell me what is happening.

Thanks Tom for your advice and the warning to supporting the transmission with a jack. My xjs seems to be haunted by noises lately, first the idle pulley, the compressor, and after the transmission restoration, the tail pipe and now the transmission mount. The car also has vibrations as you mention. And I am also planning to use the garage floor too with the car on ramps.

It took me four tries to get everything "stacked" correctly when I replaced my tranny mount spring and bushings. I don't have a lift and was able to easily do it on tyhe garage floor with the car on ramps. Quick learning curve too. First time took about 3 hours. Fourth and final time 20 minutes. Is the car vibrating horribly too? That's another sign of the tranny mount being wonked.

I should add, make sure you support the tranny with a jack and use a second jack under the support plate so you don't klonk yourself when the spring lets go. If you aren't using two jacks in addition to what's holding the car up, rethink what you're doing.

Thank you for your reply. You are completely right. The car was a bit noisy since the transmission restoration, but the weather has only started to get warm her in Denmark a few weeks ago, so I discovered how loud it was after rolling down the window for the first time. And my exhaust has also cause noises right after I got the car back from the transmission restoration from touching the body. I fixed that problem right away, but couldn't figure out what causes the other loud noise, but suspected the transmission, since the noise does not come from the engine but somewhere under the car.

Thank you for your help.
