Does anybody run a V-12 E-Type without the rain shields?
It appears that the only real reason for them is to keep water out of the spark plug recesses.
Comments gentlemen?

Tom,

I ran my old '72 2+2 for a while without the shields. Then it rained. I put them back on. Without them, the V becomes a swimming pool. If they are not in great shape, you can get new ones from SNG Barratt.

As far as the filter element goes, check SNG Barratt or Moss Motors. I used to buy mine from SNG Barratt. They always had them in stock, no problem, and they were reasonably priced.

Negative on the misunderstanding. Filter elements no longer available.

Rain shields removed. They are now in the crate with all the other superflurous hardware. now I can see my vacuum lines etc. for mtc.and cleaning.

well, i don't see what you gain by removing them. they're not in the way of anything and don't weight much... Jaguar added them after some wet weather testing, so i guess they didn't add them for no reason. I didn't have any problems when i didn't have them but in all honesty i don't think the car sat out in the rain much.

re oil element, i don't have any recent invoice handy, but the last one i have (a year ago) showed 26.10. must be a misunderstanding, he usually charges me about $100 to change the oil, top off the tranny and diff, lube everything, and give the car a good inspection.

The thing is, they are fitted. I would like to remove them and don't see why I shouldn't.

By the way Pascal, Jag Doctor (Boca) want's $75.00 for an oil filter element. Welsh told me today they were out-of-stock due to the manufacturer has a "tooling problem".

i ran mine without for a couple of years, no problems even in our typical florida downpours.

i don't see any reasons not to have them, they're easy to find (or were...) but if you don't have them for a while, don't worry.
