I would appreciate input on supercharger oil replacement. I have not changed the oil on my 2004 XJR with 72K miles on it. I have seen numerous posts of owners who have changed their oil at various intervals. It does not appear to be a difficult job, but somewhat tedious due to the small volumes involved and the difficulty in draining

Dan,

It works fine as long as you know not to copy the period at the end of the URL

But, it's even easier if you use the direct link feature. See the end of this post.

Dan,

I know of no way to post any sort of document, e.g., MS-Word or PDF, as a direct attachment to a message here.

If you have your own webspace or put the document out on Google Drive, and share it with the public, you can then use the "Link Title" and "Link URL" feature just below the box you type your post in to give a direct link to the document.

When I've wanted to post step-by-step instructions I either did a series of posts on a thread or used the technique I've noted above for what I've written and saved in a document.

Howard:

I did this on my '04 XJR at 70K miles and prepared a fairly detailed writeup of my experience. This is the form of a pdf file with photos and text. If you like, I can e-mail this to you.

Based on my experience, I would change the oil. It is a straight-forward task that doesn't take much time or $. In my case, the oil level was low and the oil was very dark and smelled like, well, not good.

Steven
This kit certainly makes it appear easy to do. I have also heard that GM supercharger oil is equivalent to the Eaton used for Jaguar. Perhaps its even the same supercharger.
Do you know any reason why the kit would not be acceptable for XKR? I believe only type S is mentioned

thanks

I've been working on these cars since before there were superchargers on them; and I've come to realize the synthetic oil used in the supercharger will by far outlast the blower itself. That is barring a leak or a failure. Never had to change oil in a single one yet. The '95-'96 6 Cyl cars had a 30k change interval to start with, they abolished that for 1997 and later once they figured out it wasn't necessary. I have 128K on mine, never changed the oil. I would recommend a periodic look-see for leaks, and rest easy otherwise.

In your case, Jaguar considers it a 'filled for life' part.

Cheers,
