I am seeking feedback on starter replacement for my 1969 XKE 2+2:
I like to stay with orginal equipment, rebuilt but open to suggestions concerning up grades.
I've done the job on my two MGBs, still have the scars, but would be interested in anyone experiences with the XKE, always an adventure first time out.
Thanks,
Craig Harriman

You're right...it IS a big honker! Don't overlook the spacer ring between starter and bell-housing.

Thank you Pat, that is the path I have always taken with the MGBs, but the 4.2 is such a large mass for a starter to manage I was interested in our communities feedback.
Thanks again; I enjoy and benifit from your inputs,
Craig

Craig: MY opinion only, but I'd send it out for rebuild if it is giving you problems. There was a time in the past when solenoids were unavailable for the Series 1 cars, but I don't think that's the case any longer. So the starters for S2's shouldn't be any big deal. Pick up a Hemmings (or intenert search) for someone who has experience in restoring old Jaguar starters.
Or you could buy a newer model starter that will fit, and is probably more serviceable. Check with upgrades at SNG Barratt USA.

I'll check back when project completed, with ring!
