I broke the speedometer guage glass. How does the retaining ring come off to replace the glass? This is a series 1 3.8 if that matters. I know it's dumb but it happened, so advice in replacement is appreciated.

after you unscrew it, you should take it to a glass place. they should be able to cut a circle of tempered glass the correct diameter. we have a number of clients in the glass business and i have seen them replace things that should be at least as difficult as this. '59 MGA (sold)

Same thing happened to me, the round part that the glass that used to cover the speedo should un-screw like a jar lid, I think replaceing the broken round piece of glass inside of the ring is probably impossible, I found a old broken speedo on ebay for about $45.00 and un-screwed the round piece with the good glass in it from the old broken speedo and replaced the broken one with the ebay speedo.
