Hi there,
Does anyone know, Did Jag have different speedo gears to compensate for the various possible rear gear ratios or was this acomplished in another way? I'm changing my axle ratio and it would be nice to keep the speedo accurate. Thanks for your help.

Hi Andrew,As Paul said the heads are different. Each speedo is designed for abcd turns per mile, and for example my E Type SIII is 1216 tpm. this number is 32 ( number of teeth on the worm gear ) times 38 ( the number of teeth on the odo gear. By changing these gears, available from donor speedos, you can change the calibration. So when you change the diff, you can calculate the new tpm, and then change the gears. This is what the experts do when you send away the speedo for the "fix". Regards, John M Holmes

No, ythe drive and driven gears are all the same for e-types with sticks, the automatics do have different gears and ratios. The speedo heads are calibrated differently.
