Got a 57 mph motorcycle ticket on deserted Skyline Drive early in the morning on the way to CJC concours. Never had a US ticket before and the consensus at Little Switzerland was my mail would be full of offers from traffic attorneys scouring the public record for defendable cases.

So far I've heard nothing almost a week later, so either it's beyond hope or not a normal case, or all the traffic attorneys are asleep. Anyone got ideas how to proceed? I feel like just paying the $185, as I hear VA points are a different system from MD and will not transfer. I also hear conflicting stories that in VA more than 20 over is reckless driving but others say for a 35 limit it has to be more than 30 over. Insurance sounds like it could be a bear (saw three of those as well!).

Anyone with personal or professional experience of my exact situation (not general speeding tickets in other places, which may not apply) is welcome to get in touch and/or empty my wallet some more for a good outcome. Off list probably better for nitty-gritty. pc at thewritersbureau dot com

Hi Bill.

Well, despite the near-unanimous opinion in Little Switzerland that my mailbox would be stuffed within days, full of lawyer offers to take my case, I never heard a thing from anyone. So I waited about a week or ten days, sent my check off for $185 and never heard anything more. I think after this time with not one peep from anywhere I can regard myself as being home and dry. Yes?

George Camp felt I might be OK since I was within Virginia but not on Virginia land (it was Federal park land) and that therefore I would remain outside the state network. Seems he was dead right because I paid my insurance renewal for two cars and the bike last week and it was not jacked up.

So I think I dodged a bullet, again...
