Leaking gas tanks are very common, from rust. There are numerous gas lines and hoses at the rear of these cars, and the easiest, for me, is to remove the lower cover beneath the tank. Part of the rear bumper will have to come off. I don't like Haynes very much, but it does have a pretty good section on gas tank removal. The factory manuel also covers this pretty well. Once the cover is removed, you can see quite a few of the gas lines, and possibly if the leak is in the tank itself. If the tank is leaking, its a pretty easy fix. If you do this and find the leak, then post back for more info on the fixes.

i have traced the leak to the left gas tank area. is there a good possability that it might be somthing other than the tank its self? is there an easy way to diagnose this? i have the factory service manule. i have found it some what confusing seeing as i speak american and not the qeens english.

Could also be the fuel canister at the front of the car, drivers side, in front of the front wheel, could be full of raw gas.

check each of the Injector fuel hoses at the fuel rail, after you turn the engine ON,

check the cold start injector after you turn the ignition switch to ON, before cranking the engine,

check the fuel filter hoses after you turn the engine ON,

check the under-car fuel lines with engine running. (right/passenger side of car).

If all those are ok, the next check is quite involved, it entails checking the hose connections under the rear parcel shelf tray, and at each "C" post, (Fuel Evaporative System).

You will need a Factory Shop Manual for that, don't try to guess your way through it.
