Holy Smokes! I have missed the existence of this forum till now. I also notice that there was a great discussion of Slalom Car Classifications back in June, nothing since then. Is the issue closed, or is there still time for input?
I like the idea of KISS, and my suggestion for keeping it most simple is to adopt the SCCA definition of Stock Category. It's true that these are not ideal rules, and I saw several statements against some of them. Onothe other side, these are the common rules used around the country for the vast majority of autocrosses, both SCCA and other clubs'. This way if my car were eligible for Stock category in SCCA, NASA, AAS, or CSCC events out here, then it would also be eligible for JCNA Stock. I believe there is a powerful advantage to that situation. The one which is of some concern relates to R compound tires, which are allowed in SCCA Stock. This would pretty well make R tires mandatory, because they are worth about 2 seconds a minute compared to the best street tires.

Another approach would be to adopt rules like Porsche Club of America uses for its National events. Various enhancements are assigned a points value, and the modifications to your car are scored by points, and if your score is over a certain limit, you move to modified category. We could probably adopt the same points, as the modifications would likely be the same or very similar.
