I have been confused about what the horse power ratings were for the Series 1.5 E-types were. I have heard they were from the 240 hp down to the 170 hp range. What is the hp for a '68 "gold top" engine with the 2 Zenith Stromberg carbs. and cross over pipe at the rear of the engine ?

Re.: Series 1.5 horsepower ?
The 170 HP number is probably pretty close...but the triple carb version was 'way less than the advertised 265...probably around 190HP.

Does that mean that if I were to change out the Strombergs with the 3 SU
set-up on this car I am going to get about 20 more hp. or are there "cam"
differences also ? Are there other benefits? I have heard the Strombergs
are more troublesome than the SU's but so far I have not had any trouble
with them in the 3 years since I rebuilt them. I have taken out the
secondary set of butterfly valves in the intake manifold and that gave me
much better response.
