I bought nice new hoses from XKs, but they are just a little thicker than the original and will not quite fit in the original Cheney clamps that were on the factory hoses. The car did have factory original hoses and clamps on it when I started so I know these are the right clamps. Most of the clamps are restored and I am not looking forward to sourcing new ones.

Anybody know of a source for thinner, more original type hoses ?

Thanks,

thanks guys. I'm going to just try a different hose vendor. I was able to find moulded hoses for the heater core from another application at the local parts store. This is a 9000 mile original car and using these little hoses as an example the OD of the new hoses is 200/1000s larger than the original even without the old clamp squish.

Not necessarily Jaguar, but in another Marque, I have seen "restoration" of things like clamps where the excess "tail" was trimmed to look "extra neat".
Trouble is, if you do that on older, squeezed-down hoses, you're hosed.

I would fathom a guess that the "restored" Cheney clamps were "trimmed" to older hoses, and a further guess that you will never find a hose that will work with those clamps in the same position.

Hope I'm wrong.

But, as Patrick says, there is always a bunch left over hanging out the end on the clamp.

Never heard of this one before. Usually...and as you know...there are a few extra turns of slack in the clamps. Hard to believe you don't have any extra to work with. I guess you could try another source for another set of hoses, such as SNG Barratt. Failing that, you'll have to use regular hose clamps until you can find the next size Cheney. Just because that Cheney clamp may be original to that spot, that doesn't make it the right size.
