How would I go about putting in a period correct sun roof in my S-type? What kind of money would it cost for me to do it or to have it done ? Does anyone know who sells the kit ? I hope I am not crazy. I love my Jag, I also love the idea of one of the giant sun roofs I see every now and again. I am not concerned with leakage. My jag stays in he garage.

Re.: Sun Roof for a 64 S-type
Jim good luck--you must remember you will also have to cut the support rods for the headliner then fix them to the sunroof frame. All of that would have to be done before you could cut wood! I admire your drive--glad I do not have to do it!

Re.: Sun Roof for a 64 S-type
Thanks George !
I have sent E-mails to StreetBeat Custom and Webasto on what they have that would fit.
Street Beat has do it yourself install folding sunroofs that they can build to your specs. I was thinking of something like 36" x 36". I have asked for instructions and for them to identify the trim parts. I would fabricate my own trim from wood.

Re.: Sun Roof for a 64 S-type
Jim the roof you are asking about is a Webasto. Never placed on a car from the factory but added ex factory. THey are still in business but the kits are much different than during the period. The period roof had matching wood work in the opening and with the exception of the Webasto nameplate NO PLASTIC. You can search for a modern kit but if you are serious buy the frames and hardware from a salvage car and have the cover remade.
My firm installs Webasto Sunroofs and we would be delighted to install one on your Jaguar. We have locations in Chicago, Cincinnati, and Detroit. If these locations are not convenient for you, I will be happy to refer you to a competent installation facility.
