Well guys, it wasn't easy!!
The original evaporator was in bad shape so we decided to up
grade the whole system with a new Retro Air system.
Points to note-
The new evaporator is bigger than the old one so this caused
problems with fitment between the fuse panel door and the
radio console. Not an easy fix. Thought we would wear the
consoles out we put them in and out so many times checking
fitment.
We had to make new evaporator brackets to fit the xke dash.
Had to cut down the shifter console and mod the shifter
tunnel to fit everything in properly. We looked at a picture
that RetroAir sent us showing us some one else's install but
really disliked it. The fuse panel door could not be opened
properly as the evaporator was jammed up against it and was
very cocked to one side.
Started charging the system up and compressor would not
come on even tho we had juice to the wire. Finally
discovered that the crimped fitting they had put on the
compressor lead was off the actual wire and held on by
shrink tubing. I personally solder all the connections I do
when building a wire harness, I hate crimped fittings for
this reason!
