Thanks to all for the help and photographs. I think my big mistake was thinking the bracket I bought didn't need holes drilled in it! I I had never noticed the six filled in rivet holes, that must have been done during one of the car's paint jobs, but for the life of me I don't know why. So, for now at least, I drilled two holes in the license plate bracket that correspond to the two larger holes in the body, and have it mounted with some bolts and rubber washers. I measured it so the license plate would hang at the proper height for a Series II between the pipes, but there is enough room on the bracket to move it higher if I wanted to add a Series I setup like Jay mentioned.
