Micheal is certainly right. I don't know where you got the idea to use silver solder, but you couldn';t heat it hot enough to melt it with a propane torch anyway. I n ever used anything but plumber's solder (50/50 lead/tin) to solder my rad. If it is clean and just around 400 F. or so as Michael says, it will work fine . It would be a lot easier as I said before to do it in the horizontal position, however . Remember : this is soldering , not Silver soldering or brazing (aka bronze welding) You don't have to worry about "blowing a hole " in anything with a propane torch. It only gets around 750-800 F degrees. Do not use acetylene or MAPP gas. or you will blow holes.
