Soldering is lead and tin alloy that melts and flows between two ,metal surfaces and bonds them when the solder cools below 200 F or so. Steel will only melt at 5000 degrees Fahrenheit. Brass melts at 1100 degrees Fahrenheit. You cannot weld brass . Brazing(Bronze welding) it is risky.
Soldering is a simple enough matter if it is done carefully. It has excellent bonding qualities when brass (rads are all brass from England in the days of the E-type)
