On review of the "2005 AGM,Proposed Mechanical Judging Rules Change", I notice that maximum deduction for an inoperable "Back-up Light System" is 6 points with a "Min. of 2 for max. deduction" or (presumably) a 1.0 point deduction for each inoperative light filament. As some early Jaguars (such as the XK-120 & XK-140) had a single-bulb back-up light system (and therefore only one filament), when that one bulb filiment is out - the "back-up light system" is inoperative. Does this mean that in these "early" cars, an inoperative "Back-up Light System" will have a maximum deduction of 1.0 point (as it would appear to read) -Or a 6.0 point deduction for one burnt-out/loose bulb?? I don't know what other cars this would affect -probably the XK-150 and some of the early sedans, but I guess the Operation Verification Judge can ask the entrant how many bulbs are in their back-up light if it doesn't work.

Jerry,
Your initial interpretation of the rule is correct.

There is a basic assuption made that most Jaguar back-up lamps contain but one, single-filament bulb each.

Therefore, if a particular Jaguar has (ie was designed with) only one back-up lamp and that lamp doesn't work, it will receive a 1.0 point (single filament) deduction only. (Entrants, whose cars have single back-up lamps, essentially get the benefit of the doubt as to whether it is just a bad bulb or something more serious.)

If the Jaguar has two or more back-up lamps and none of them work, it is assumed to be a "system" fault and the maximum 6.0 point deduction is made.

Note, this year, the Entrant will be allowed a maximum of 15 minutes in which to attempt to restore normal operation of a lamp, horn, or system for which deductions were made during the Operation Verification.

Thanks for asking,
