I agree with Joel that a big XK plus transmission is a very heavy lump to have dangling at a steep angle and high position on a portable lift. A cross beam and chain hoist is easier, but even then you need to have the front of the car raised some, which means you need a short chain/strap to hang the engine to make sure you don't run out of height. Much safer to drop it out of the bottom. The operation will take some measuring/planning to make sure there is room to roll the car/engine apart.
